Sport Ortho

Fellowship-trained surgeons

Expert Surgical Care

Schedule directly with a fellowship-trained surgeon.

Overview

Sport Ortho includes board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons who treat the conditions they subspecialize in — shoulder and elbow, sports injuries, hand and wrist, and joint replacement. Because they practice inside the same organization that evaluated you, moving from diagnosis to surgical consultation does not mean starting over with a new practice. Being referred to a surgeon does not mean you need surgery.

What to expect

  • Fellowship-trained specialists

Our surgeons completed subspecialty fellowship training after residency, including shoulder, elbow and sports medicine at Columbia University and hand surgery at the University of Virginia. Each provider page lists their training, the conditions they treat, and how to book with them directly.

  • A consultation, not a commitment

A surgical consultation is an expert opinion on your diagnosis and your options. Many patients leave one with a plan built around therapy, medication, or an injection instead.

  • Coordinated from consultation through recovery

If you and your surgeon decide on surgery, a surgical coordinator schedules the procedure, handles insurance prior approval, and stays your point of contact through follow-up and recovery.

  • Physical therapy is part of your care team

Our physical therapy team works alongside your surgical team throughout post-operative recovery as part of one coordinated care plan.

Frequently asked questions

Why have you been referred to a Sport Ortho surgeon?

Because your condition is one a subspecialist evaluates best. We match you with the surgeon whose fellowship training covers your injury, so the opinion you get is from someone who treats it regularly.

What if I need surgery?

If you need surgery, we guide you through the entire journey, from scheduling to setting up all your appointments.

Should I be concerned?

No — being referred to a surgeon does not mean you need surgery. We start by discussing your specific needs and concerns, explain any procedure and potential risks, and together develop a personalized plan tailored to your preferences.

How do I schedule my procedure?

Your surgical coordinator is with you every step of the way. They schedule your procedure, coordinate with your insurance for prior approval, and are your contact throughout the process. The coordinator direct number is 615-590-3813.
